MAC Nordstrom Naturals Eyeshadow Palette Review

When I first saw that the MAC Nordstrom Naturals Palette ($85) had been released, I tried to convince myself for a full 6 hours or so that I didn’t need this palette before realizing that that was completely insane and running out to Nordstrom half an hour before closing to pick this beauty up! I definitely made the right decision here. 😛

The MAC Nordstrom Naturals Palette is limited edition and exclusive to Nordstrom so if you want to secure one of these, you may want to act quickly!

OVERALL REVIEW: 8.50

Packaging: Fantastic shades that work well together. Sturdy plastic with clear lid makes it easy to see all of your beautiful shades although I’ll never stop wishing for MAC to put shades names on palettes. 8/10

Longevity: All the looks I’ve done with this palette have held up well all day long with a primer. 9/10

Application: Most shades are well pigmented and apply & blend nicely. 9/10

Texture: The majority of the colors in this palette are super smooth although a couple of the mattes are a little dry. 8/10

In this palette, you get 15 nearly full-sized pans of MAC’s best-selling shades! Each of these pans are 1.3g where as the regular MAC pans are 1.5g so you’re only missing the tiniest amount of product compared to a full sized pan. I actually didn’t have any of the shades in this palette so I took that as a sign that this palette was meant to be in my life but whether or not this palette might be “worth it” to you might depend on what MAC eyeshadows you already have hanging around in your stash. If you don’t have most of these shades already, this palette is an awesome deal!

One regular MAC eyeshadow in the case is $16. One MAC refill pan (I think the individual pans are only sold online and at MAC Pro Stores) is $10. $10 per pan x 15 pans = $150 yet this palette is retailing for $85, making it as if each pan only costs about $5.66 each. If you’ve been thinking about expanding your eyeshadow collection, this might be a good time!

This palette is made of a sturdy plastic and has a clear top allowing you to see your shadows. The pans, unfortunately, do not seem to be easily removed from this palette so there’s no switching shades around or replacing them with other pans.

The 15 shades included in the MAC Nordstrom Naturals Eyeshadow Palette are:

  • Vapour
  • All That Glitters
  • Wedge
  • Satin Taupe
  • Honey Lust
  • Ricepaper
  • Amber Lights
  • Saddle
  • Mulch
  • Woodwinked
  • Omega
  • Brun
  • Embark
  • Beauty Marked
  • Carbon

Covergirl Lip Lava Review in Mango Lava and Look It’s Lava!

The Covergirl Lip Lava’s are color packed glosses that come in 9 bold, eyecatching shades and retail for about $8. I stumbled upon these little vials of gorgeousness the other day and couldn’t resist the opportunity to pick up a couple and try them out! I chose Mango Lava and Look It’s Lava.

Covergirl Lip Lava in Mango Lava and Look It's Lava

OVERALL REVIEW: 6.50

Packaging:  Clear tubing to show off the pretty colors! Closes securely. 8/10

Longevity: While it did hang around for several hours, it shifted after about an hour. 4/10

Application: I find the brush difficult to create a precise line and even application with. Wish it was another style. 6/10

Texture:  A little on the sticky/oily side but not too much so for a gloss. 8/10

The pigmentation of these is pretty great, especially for a gloss! They’re quite opaque and pack a real punch of color.

One thing that really sort of bugged me about the Covergirl Lip Lava’s, which is probably just a personal preference, is the brush. I’d much prefer a doe-foot applicator for liquid lipsticks and glosses vs. a regular brush. The bristles on this brush have a tendency to sometimes splay out a little as you’re applying the product and I feel like this style of applicator just makes it far harder to get a clean, even application than a doe-foot style applicator. Does anyone actually prefer this style of brush over doe-foots? This one isn’t nice and firm like a good lip brush you might buy would be.

Maybelline’s Creamy Matte Lipstick in Daringly Nude

Maybelline's Creamy Matte Lipstick in Daringly Nude

I’ve got to start this by saying I am beyond ecstatic about my recent purchase of Maybelline’s Daringly Nude! I have two other shades in the Maybelline Creamy Matte lipstick line, Divine Wine and Touch of Spice, and I really love the formula so when I found myself wandering through the makeup aisle at the grocery store the other day, I decided on a whim to bring Daringly Nude home with me and holy shit, that was a fantastic decision!

Maybelline's Creamy Matte Lipstick in Daringly Nude

I have a whole bunch of wonderful lipsticks that I love probably way too dearly but I don’t really have a go-to nude shade. Until now. Maybelline’s Creamy Matte lipstick in Daringly Nude is the nude that has been missing from my life. So neutral yet so beautiful and I just adore this on my skin tone. Basically it’s the nude lipstick of my dreams and you guys are probably going to be seeing this on my face all too often now. In this picture I’ve paired it with a little of MAC’s lip liner in Soar.

New video! January Favorites!

So it’s the time again! I skipped out on December because I was taking a vacation for basically that whole month but I’m back with a new video featuring my favorite products of January!

I apologize for my partially cut off head but new set ups are hard. I’ll be sure to make sure my full head is included in future videos! =P

Many of my favorite products of January have, not surprisingly, already been featured on my blog because I love to blog about products that I really like. The items featured in my January Favorites video are:

NYX Matte Lipstick – Two posts!

MAC Stone Lip Liner – http://sultrysuburbia.com/mac-lip-liners-soar-stone-nightmoth/

My Makeup Eraser was sent to me by – http://instagram.com/ahodge.makeuperaser/

So in addition to this video just going up, I also have an eyeshadow tutorial filmed that I need to edit and it should be up within a few days! The more videos I film, the more I really like it so I’m definitely going to keep this up. I have lots of suggestions from you guys written down for future videos but I am, of course, always open to more.

My video set up is such a pain though! It’s cramped, there is stuff everywhere and it takes a long time to get it all set up and ready to film. It kind of deters me from filming as much as I’d like to but very, very soon I’m going to reevaluate my makeup room and see what I can do to make a more easily usable set up happen so I can keep these videos flowing!

Let me know what you think of this video as well as your thoughts on the products! <3

MAC Lip Liners in Soar, Stone and Nightmoth

Ahh, lip liners. Once upon a time I used to think that lip liners just weren’t a necessity in my makeup routine but looking back I can now see the err of my ways. Okay, so lip liners usually aren’t going to make or break your whole look but damn they can be really, really useful!

mac-lip-liner-soar-stone-nightmoth-3-2

For a long time the only lip liners I had were NYX’s Slim Lip Pencil and I have a lot of them. (Should I do a post on these?) I’d never used another lip liner before, I was happy with what they were doing and they’re super cheap so what’s not to love? But then I won a giftcard on Savvyist and decided to treat myself to my first MAC lip liner to see what all the buzz was about. And within the same week, I went out and bought two more. So yeah, they’re pretty awesome.

The first thing I noticed is that they are quite soft and glide on so easily, leaving behind a full opaque line. I like to apply a lip balm to my lips while doing my makeup so that they’ll be nice and soft when it comes time to apply lipstick but my other lip liners just couldn’t cope with the remnants of my lip balm and didn’t apply very well over the slick texture of it. Not a problem for these MAC lip liners!

Another impressive thing about these liners is the staying power! These liners really just go and go and go. Even when my lipstick starts to fade, these liners are still visible and  usually still nearly perfectly in place. This can create a bit of an unfortunate Cholaesque look if you aren’t careful but the staying power is super impressive, none the less!

In addition to keeping your lip products from bleeding, lip liners have several other useful benefits. A sharpened pencil makes it far easier to create precise lines vs. just applying lipstick straight out of the tube. You can also use your liner to “correct” any little mishaps you may have after applying your lipstick. These lip liners are quite matte and have some real staying power so they also make a fantastic base to make your lipsticks even  longer lasting! Just fill in your entire lip with liner first, apply lipstick on top and now you have a great matte base for added longevity.

New NYX Lip Products! High Voltage Lipstick, Intense Butter Gloss & Vamped Up Lip Top Coat!

If you haven’t heard the news yet, NYX Cosmetics has released a whole bunch of new products from new lip products, eyeshadows, brow products, a contour kit and many more things! The moment I realized this, I had to place an Ulta order to try out several of these new items. I mean, it’s for the blog, you know? How could I not? 😛

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Berry Strudel

By the way, for this look I’m using Makeup Geek’s eyeshadows in Vanilla Bean, Frappe, Peach Smoothie & Cocoa Bear + Urban Decay’s X. My lashes are Red Cherry #83 and I absolutely ADORE them! This my first time wearing Red Cherry lashes and I’ve got a blog post planned on them for you guys!

NYX Cosmetics High Voltage Lipsticks

NYX High Voltage Lipsticks in Mirage and Dirty Talk

NYX has released 22 new shades of lipstick and I pretty much want them all! I only ordered two to start with but I already see myself picking up at least a few more of these. They had so many beautiful shades and while it was virtually impossible to choose, I ended up with Mirage and Dirty Talk.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick Swatch in Mirage and Dirty Talk

The High Voltage lipsticks come in a new slim tube design which makes it easier to get a precise application straight from the tube than with larger lipstick bullets. These retail for about $6 and contain 2.5g of product. The NYX Matte lipsticks also retail for about $6 but contain 4.5g of product. I can’t say I love paying the same price for much less product but then again, I’ve never actually finished a tube of lipstick so I suppose I can’t complain much.

The formula of the NYX High Voltage lipsticks is really nice! They’re well pigmented, very comfortable to wear with a creamy finish and last really well. The staying power of the High Voltage lipsticks isn’t quite as good as their Matte lipstick formula, but good nonetheless. After a few hours of wear, a cup of coffee and some food, I only had some minimal fading near the corners and center of my lips.
