If you haven’t heard the news yet, NYX Cosmetics has released a whole bunch of new products from new lip products, eyeshadows, brow products, a contour kit and many more things! The moment I realized this, I had to place an Ulta order to try out several of these new items. I mean, it’s for the blog, you know? How could I not? 😛
By the way, for this look I’m using Makeup Geek’s eyeshadows in Vanilla Bean, Frappe, Peach Smoothie & Cocoa Bear + Urban Decay’s X. My lashes are Red Cherry #83 and I absolutely ADORE them! This my first time wearing Red Cherry lashes and I’ve got a blog post planned on them for you guys!
NYX Cosmetics High Voltage Lipsticks
NYX has released 22 new shades of lipstick and I pretty much want them all! I only ordered two to start with but I already see myself picking up at least a few more of these. They had so many beautiful shades and while it was virtually impossible to choose, I ended up with Mirage and Dirty Talk.
The High Voltage lipsticks come in a new slim tube design which makes it easier to get a precise application straight from the tube than with larger lipstick bullets. These retail for about $6 and contain 2.5g of product. The NYX Matte lipsticks also retail for about $6 but contain 4.5g of product. I can’t say I love paying the same price for much less product but then again, I’ve never actually finished a tube of lipstick so I suppose I can’t complain much.
The formula of the NYX High Voltage lipsticks is really nice! They’re well pigmented, very comfortable to wear with a creamy finish and last really well. The staying power of the High Voltage lipsticks isn’t quite as good as their Matte lipstick formula, but good nonetheless. After a few hours of wear, a cup of coffee and some food, I only had some minimal fading near the corners and center of my lips.
Mirage was a little bit of a surprise. The photo of Mirage on Ulta’s website looks like a very light tan but there is definitely a noticeable pinkish-peachy color to Mirage. It’s one of those colors that can be hard to wear although I do kind of dig it for natural looks.
Oh man, Dirty Talk is giving me life! I’m going to ride out this brown lip trend for as long as I possibly can and the gorgeous deep, warm tones of Dirty Talk are everything I’ve ever wanted in a lipstick and precisely what was missing from my collection. Swoon.
NYX Cosmetics Intense Butter Gloss
I’ve been a big fan of the NYX Butter Glosses for a long time now. In fact, they’re my favorite lip glosses. They feel smooth and moisturizing as opposed to sticky, they last really well and I think the pigmentation is great. Well, NYX just kicked up the pigmentation big time with the Intense Butter Gloss line.
In addition to the pigmentation of the Intense Butter Gloss line just being out of this world, I noticed that the doe-foot applicator in the new line has also changed. Where the regular Butter Gloss line has your standard, run of the mill doe-foot applicator, the Intense Butter Gloss line has a doe-foot applicator that bends near the base. I really like this new little feature as the bending allows the applicator to really conform to the contours of your lip, giving you a much more precise application.
As you can see in these pictures, the Intense Butter Gloss colors that I choose did bleed a little. I generally don’t use any sort of lip liner or other product when doing lip swatches because I like to show you guys exactly how each product performs on it’s own rather than giving you a doctored up version but I’d imagine the bleeding could be remedied with a lip liner and/or primer.
Oh. My. God. NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Berry Strudel is just blowing my mind over here! I have wanted a lip product in this exact color for the longest time and when I first put this on my lips, I think I squealed a little.
Another gorgeous shade from the NYX Intense Butter Gloss line is Black Cherry Tart. While this color is beautiful, I did have some trouble trying to get it even and it was a bit patchy. I’m not sure that I’d wear this on it’s own because patchiness drives me bonkers but I’ll definitely be layering this beauty over some lipsticks.
NYX Cosmetics V’amped Up Lip Top Coat
So the NYX Vamped Up Lip Top Coat is a product that I’ve never quite seen done before! This is a jumbo sized lip pencil that transforms your lipsticks into a brand new, more vampy shade. When swatched over bare skin, it shows up as a sheer black with a glossy finish and when applied over lipstick, it turns it into a whole new shade! Clearly this is a pretty neat and unusual product.
This product takes a little working with to get it just right. It’s like a jumbo lip pencil which has it good and bad points. The big tip obviously makes it quicker to apply it over your whole lips but it also makes it more difficult to very carefully and precisely get right along your lip line and the underlying lipstick in that area. It also is a bit patchy at first but builds up pretty well.
For about $7, I think this is a fantastic, budget-friendly way to bring some new life to your old lipsticks!
NYX Mirage + NYX V’amped Up Lip Top Coat
The NYX Vamped Up Lip Top Coat turns nudes grey…
NYX Sweet Pink + NYX V’amped Up Lip Top Coat
…pinks into vampy purples…
NYX Alabama + NYX V’amped Up Lip Top Coat
…reds into killer shades of deep burgundy…
NYX Dirty Talk + NYX V’amped Up Lip Top Coat
…and it doesn’t really do much to already very dark lip products.
I also purchased a few more non-lip items from NYX’s new releases and I’ll be making another blog post to share these items with you soon!
What do you guys think of NYX’s new line of lip products? Have you tried any of them out yet or just lusting over a few shades for now? 😛
