I’ve been on the hunt for a nice black lipstick for a while now. I really like black with certain looks but it is, without question, a really high maintenance color. It can look like a real mess if the formula is bad, leaving you with a dirty looking, patchy-black mouth and I don’t think that’s anyone’s beauty goal. Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #50 is a great option for a black lipstick though! It’s comfortable, creamy, well pigmented and lasts pretty well.
OVERALL REVIEW: 8
Packaging: Silver and black standard lipstick tube. 8/10
Longevity: This shade wears quite well for about 4-6 hours before touch ups. mostly only fading in the center of my lips. 8/10
Application: I prefer pointed lipstick shapes, similar to MAC’s. This lipstick bullet is rounded on the end and I found that to be a bit of a hassle to work with. 7/10
Texture: Very creamy, comfortable and smooth. 9/10
Like I said, I’ve been on the hunt for a nice black lipstick for a while now. Prior to this, the only one I had was NYX’s Chambord and that just wasn’t cutting it for me. It’s a very affordable option but I found that it didn’t wear very well, even with a primer, leaving you with a patchy black mouth and you shouldn’t even think of trying to eat while wearing Chambord. I also considered Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in Slayer but some of the darker shades of the Studded Kiss formula have been a little disappointing soo I finally arrived at Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #50 and I’m quite happy with my decision!
A couple of things that I first noticed about this lipstick is the shape of the lipstick bullet. The tip is curved, not pointed like many lipsticks, and I find this to be a bit awkward when applying it but it’s definitely not too much of a hassle to work around. Another thing that really stood out is the taste/fragrance of this lipstick. I prefer my lipsticks to either taste like nothing or something subtle and edible like vanilla. This, however, tasted and smelled like perfume. It was something in between fruity and floral and the scent really lingers.
So let’s move on to how the lipstick actually performs! It was well pigmented and very easily opaque. Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #50 lasted pretty well throughout the day, despite black just being a really difficult color. It wears for about 4-6 hours before needing a touch up and even then, it was mostly just the center of my lips where the product had faded so you won’t need to stress yourself too much about keeping your black looking clean when wearing this lipstick
I found that the shine and creaminess of the lipstick held up very well throughout the whole wear time, never leaving my lips feeling dry.
Here I am wearing Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick #50! For the rest of my look I’m also wearing Makeup Geek eye shadows in Peach Smoothie, Vanilla Bean, Chickadee, and Cocoa Bear as well as some shades from my Coastal Scents 252 Palette. My brows are Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Medium Brown and my lashes are House of Lashes Temptress Wispy.
All in all, I’m quite happy with my purchase and I’m glad that I finally have a black that I can wear out of the house without being worried about my lips looking like a hot mess! 😛
