Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette Review

Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette Look and Necromancy Cosmetica Naked Witch

Hey, guys! Long time, no see, eh? Sorry about the lack of updates on the blog recently but I’ve been insanely busy lately and focusing most of my energy on getting my company up and running! I’ll be doing another post very soon sharing my progress so far as well as swatches and product peeks. Now on to the review!

Kat Von D recently released her Mi Vida Loca Remix Holiday Collection which included a lip set and the stunning Mi Vida Loca Remix Eyeshadow Palette! This palette popped up earlier than expected online and I snatched one up asap. I think they’ve been restocked a couple of times online since then but apparently in small quantities as they’ve been selling out really quickly. If you can’t track one down online, don’t worry though! I believe these are set to launch in stores on Oct. 2nd but correct me if I’m wrong. Point is, you still have time!

Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette Review

When I saw the first pictures of this amazingly bright, color wheel inspired eyeshadow palette, I knew that I couldn’t let it slip through my fingers! The Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette consists of 24 shades, 17 brights & 7 neutrals, and is an amazing palette to create a huge variety of daring and colorful looks! The 7 neutral shades  are perfect for seamlessly tying bright looks together and are great for highlighting under the brow and inner corner, deepening edges, creating transition shades and even to just use alone for neutral looks.

Packaging: Extremely pretty but takes up an awful lot of space.  7/10

Longevity: Paired with my favorite eye primer, these shadows were still looking perfect by the end of the day! 10/10

Application: Most of the shades performed well & were wonderfully pigmented. 8/10

Texture: These shadows get quite dusty & are a little on the chalky side. 7/10

Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette Review

Now, this is my 3rd eyeshadow palette from Kat Von D and is honestly the only one I’ve truly liked. I also own the Ladybird Palette and the Shade & Light Palette but found them rather unspectacular and oddly difficult to blend. In my opinion, the KVD Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette is the saving grace of KVD eyeshadows!

One really neat feature of this palette is that it is in the layout of a color wheel, which makes creating cohesive looks extra easy! If you happen to be a little color challenged, the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette has your back! Just follow basic color theory to select shades that work well with each other. For example, you could use two shades directly across from each other on the wheel for a complimentary color scheme or select a few colors that run next to each other for an analogous color scheme. To get a more in-depth idea of the color wheel they color schemes, check this out!

These shades are pretty much everything I’ve ever wanted in a palette and allow for endless creative looks! The vast majority of the shadows in the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette were superbly pigmented (Black Metal & Destroyer were a little questionable), blendable and after 10 hours of wear, these shadows still looked absolutely perfect!

So let’s talk about this packaging. Now, I think the cover art, which was drawn by Kat Von D herself, is gorgeous but other aspects of the packaging are just a little weird. To start with, it’s huge and measures approximately 8.5in x 8.5in. When you pull the actual palette out of the cardboard sleeve, you have yet another 8.5in x 8.5in object to place…somewhere while you do your makeup. I get that to place decent sized pans in the shape of a color wheel calls for it to be a bit large but I don’t understand why they opted for the removable cardboard sleeve instead of just a clamshell lid. For what it’s worth, the outer sleeve does feel really sturdy for cardboard.

Like I said, this is my third KVD palette and definitely my favorite so far. Now while these shades did perform well, blend well and stayed perfect and bright all day, they are a bit on the chalky side as far as texture goes. They’re very soft and stir up quite a bit of eyeshadow dust all over your palette if you aren’t extra careful with them. Seeing all the colorful shadow dust feels a wasteful & breaks my heart just a bit. The texture of them also makes them a little more prone to fallout as well so plan for that.

In general, I think this eyeshadow palette is pretty much the bee’s knees and a must have for those who like to get a little weird with their makeup!

For this look, I used Strutter, Lyric, Synth, Hyperbole, Vinyl, Swoon, Muse and Black Metal from the Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette paired with Sophia lashes from By Silah, Naked Witch lipstick from Necromancy Cosmetica and  Inglot’s AMC Gel Liner in 79 for the red lower lashes.

    1. They’re definitely softer than the Sugarpill pressed shadows and while I don’t exactly like that, the color impact on most of the shades is BIG. Bigger than Sugarpill though? Eh, many would definitely be up to par but a couple of them are lacking.

  1. Do you by any chance know if this is limited edition in the sense of a limited time or a limited number of them are being produced? I cannot buy it until November 26th and it is KILLING me. 😰 ps. Gorgeous swatches as always doll!

    1. Whew, I do not know! But since it is a holiday collection, I’d like to to think they’ll still be available in December but that’s total speculation. Fingers crossed for you!

  2. Hi! I just discovered your blog and instagram account after seeing you on necromancy cosmetica’s page. I love your style! I wanted to ask about their lipsticks I haven’t been able to find an honest proper review of them anywhere. I have them in the shopping cart but I’m hesitant to check out and pay that amount for aa brand i know nothing about. Are they comparable in texture to anything? Are they long lasting? I would love your take on them! Thanks! P. S do Yoy think this palette or the UD electric palette is better? They have similar colors and I don’t know which to get!

    1. Hey there! Alrighty, let me try to give a quick little review!

At first, the fresh, unused lipsticks seemed really dry to me but after a couple of swipes over your lips, I guess it breaks that “new lipstick film” and they become much creamier and easy to apply while still remaining matte. The wear time is pretty awesome, I’d say they last between 4-6 hours depending on what you’re up to.

I have Necromancia which is a dark blue and it is infinitely better & easier to wear than KVD’s Poe, which is similar in color. I don’t really have a single bad thing to say about the formula, wear time or pigmentation, as it’s all definitely up to par! One thing, though. 2 of my 3 shades came with little white specks in them where they weren’t mixed properly. It doesn’t seem to affect the application but is just a little odd. I mentioned this to the owner and she told me that they were aware of the problem and had a shipment on the way that should remedy it so hopefully that is already taken care of or will be soon!

As far as the palettes go, it’s kind of hard to say which is better! Part of me almost wants to say the UD palette because the colors are SO pigmented they just like punch you in the face! hahah But the UD palette has far fewer colors, no neutrals and several of the shades in it can really stain your skin. The KVD palette has a much bigger variety & allows you to create a much broader range of looks so if I had to choose, I’d probably go with KVD.

  3. Are you on YouTube? Because if not, you should be. You are absolutely gorgeous. I love your style!
