Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Palette Review and Swatches

Words cannot describe my love for the Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Palette ($37.99). While this beautiful selection of shades look gorgeous on nearly everyone, I especially love the way the warmth of this palette makes blue eyes pop! I’ve had my eye on this beauty for a while so I was really excited to get a chance to get my paws on it.

Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Palette

Packaging: Sturdy, functional and practical. These pans can easily be removed and replaced with different pans which is wildly convenient. 10/10

Longevity: Paired with my usual primer, these eyeshadows still looked great at the end of the day. 9/10

Application: In general, this palette applied like a dream but I found Bada-Bing to be hard to blend. 7/10

Texture: Most of these shades are insanely smooth but Bada-Bing was definitely on the stiffer side. 9/10

Makeup Geek is quickly becoming one of my favorite makeup brands. I love that they make affordable yet high quality products that are easily customizable to suit your own personal preferences.

The Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Palette is no exception here. One of the things that I adore about this palette is the packaging. It’s sturdy cardboard with a mirror that’s actually large enough to see what you’re doing and be useful. All of the pans in this palette are magnetic and easily removable so if you run out of one of these shades or simply want to switch some of these shades out with different eyeshadow pans for travel or whatever other reason, it’s easy breezy to do so. This isn’t something that you often see in pre-assembled eyeshadow palettes so I think it’s nice how buyer friendly this is.

Makeup Addict Tag!

The gorgeous and ever talented tagged me for this Makeup Addict Tag so it looks like it’s time for me to fess up to my makeup addictions! 😛

1. What product do you keep buying more of, despite having plenty of in your collection?

Hands down, lipstick. I have a ridiculous amount of lipstick but I can never stop buying it! All of the pretty colors are just so attention grabbing and I’m always like “Oh, I have like 3 shades that are pretty much this exact color but this one is slightly pinker! Must have.”

2. What’s the one product you can’t live without?

I’m going to go with lashes here. Once upon a time not very long ago, I couldn’t put on a pair of falsies correctly to save my life but now that I’ve got it down pat, I feel like my makeup looks just aren’t complete until I pop some lashes on. There are always random lashes all over my home, by the way.

3. Favourite makeup brand?

This is the impossible question! I can’t pick. Nope.

4. How big is your makeup collection?

It’s big. Pretty big. You can see my vanity tour post from October here. The crazy part is that just since October, it’s expanded quite a bit! There were a couple of empty drawers in that post that are no longer empty. Luckily most of it can still fit within my vanity soo I’ll pretend it’s all totally normal and fine.

5. How do you store your makeup collection?

Ikea, baby! I have the Alex add on unit, Alex drawer unit and the Linnmon table top. The whole thing ran me about $150 and I can safely store all of my pretties here. I also have several organizers that I got from Amazon and The Container Store. Again, more on my vanity here! 😛

6. How many items of makeup do you have in your handbag at the moment?

Okay, in my makeup bag I always carry whatever lipstick I’m wearing, plus usually the lipsticks from the past like 7 days that I’ve been too lazy to remove, 2 types of powder, blotting sheets and tweezers and lash glue for lash emergencies.

7. If you could raid another blogger’s stash, who would it be?

Um, um, um! I don’t know! O_O

8. How long does your usual makeup routine take and how many products do you use?

I don’t have an every day makeup and I try to do a different look pretty much every day so I don’t quite have a normal every day routine. It usually takes me about one and a half to two hours to do my makeup! So I know that sounds a little crazy but I enjoy it. I’m one of those people who are never ever late so I plan ahead to make sure I have enough time to sit down and enjoy getting ready and playing in my makeup. With all of that being said, I still don’t care to run out bare faced whenever and if I want to pull myself together quickly and don’t have much time, I can whip something up in like 15 minutes if I have to. I have no idea how many products I typically use but it’s a few…

9. Have you ever bought makeup knowing you wouldn’t use it?

Not really. Like I’ve never bought something thinking “Hm, I’ll never use this!” but I’ve definitely bought plenty of things thinking “Oh, pretty colors!”‘ and then ended up never actually using it.

10. Nominate someone for the challenge!

New video! January Favorites!

So it’s the time again! I skipped out on December because I was taking a vacation for basically that whole month but I’m back with a new video featuring my favorite products of January!

I apologize for my partially cut off head but new set ups are hard. I’ll be sure to make sure my full head is included in future videos! =P

Many of my favorite products of January have, not surprisingly, already been featured on my blog because I love to blog about products that I really like. The items featured in my January Favorites video are:

NYX Matte Lipstick – Two posts!

For a review of the formula and swatches of Sweet Pink, Indie Flick, Euro Trash, Butter & Hippic Chic –

For swatches of Forbidden, Nude, Summer Breeze & Alabama –

Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter Stack –

MAC Stone Lip Liner –

My Makeup Eraser was sent to me by –

So in addition to this video just going up, I also have an eyeshadow tutorial filmed that I need to edit and it should be up within a few days! The more videos I film, the more I really like it so I’m definitely going to keep this up. I have lots of suggestions from you guys written down for future videos but I am, of course, always open to more.

My video set up is such a pain though! It’s cramped, there is stuff everywhere and it takes a long time to get it all set up and ready to film. It kind of deters me from filming as much as I’d like to but very, very soon I’m going to reevaluate my makeup room and see what I can do to make a more easily usable set up happen so I can keep these videos flowing!

Let me know what you think of this video as well as your thoughts on the products! <3

MAC Lip Liners in Soar, Stone and Nightmoth

Ahh, lip liners. Once upon a time I used to think that lip liners just weren’t a necessity in my makeup routine but looking back I can now see the err of my ways. Okay, so lip liners usually aren’t going to make or break your whole look but damn they can be really, really useful!

For a long time the only lip liners I had were NYX’s Slim Lip Pencil and I have a lot of them. (Should I do a post on these?) I’d never used another lip liner before, I was happy with what they were doing and they’re super cheap so what’s not to love? But then I won a giftcard on Savvyist and decided to treat myself to my first MAC lip liner to see what all the buzz was about. And within the same week, I went out and bought two more. So yeah, they’re pretty awesome.

The first thing I noticed is that they are quite soft and glide on so easily, leaving behind a full opaque line. I like to apply a lip balm to my lips while doing my makeup so that they’ll be nice and soft when it comes time to apply lipstick but my other lip liners just couldn’t cope with the remnants of my lip balm and didn’t apply very well over the slick texture of it. Not a problem for these MAC lip liners!

Another impressive thing about these liners is the staying power! These liners really just go and go and go. Even when my lipstick starts to fade, these liners are still visible and  usually still nearly perfectly in place. This can create a bit of an unfortunate Cholaesque look if you aren’t careful but the staying power is super impressive, none the less!

In addition to keeping your lip products from bleeding, lip liners have several other useful benefits. A sharpened pencil makes it far easier to create precise lines vs. just applying lipstick straight out of the tube. You can also use your liner to “correct” any little mishaps you may have after applying your lipstick. These lip liners are quite matte and have some real staying power so they also make a fantastic base to make your lipsticks even  longer lasting! Just fill in your entire lip with liner first, apply lipstick on top and now you have a great matte base for added longevity.

New NYX Lip Products! High Voltage Lipstick, Intense Butter Gloss & Vamped Up Lip Top Coat!

If you haven’t heard the news yet, NYX Cosmetics has released a whole bunch of new products from new lip products, eyeshadows, brow products, a contour kit and many more things! The moment I realized this, I had to place an Ulta order to try out several of these new items. I mean, it’s for the blog, you know? How could I not? 😛

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Berry Strudel

By the way, for this look I’m using Makeup Geek’s eyeshadows in Vanilla Bean, Frappe, Peach Smoothie & Cocoa Bear + Urban Decay’s X. My lashes are Red Cherry #83 and I absolutely ADORE them! This my first time wearing Red Cherry lashes and I’ve got a blog post planned on them for you guys!

NYX Cosmetics High Voltage Lipsticks

NYX High Voltage Lipsticks in Mirage and Dirty Talk

NYX has released 22 new shades of lipstick and I pretty much want them all! I only ordered two to start with but I already see myself picking up at least a few more of these. They had so many beautiful shades and while it was virtually impossible to choose, I ended up with Mirage and Dirty Talk.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick Swatch in Mirage and Dirty Talk

The High Voltage lipsticks come in a new slim tube design which makes it easier to get a precise application straight from the tube than with larger lipstick bullets. These retail for about $6 and contain 2.5g of product. The NYX Matte lipsticks also retail for about $6 but contain 4.5g of product. I can’t say I love paying the same price for much less product but then again, I’ve never actually finished a tube of lipstick so I suppose I can’t complain much.

The formula of the NYX High Voltage lipsticks is really nice! They’re well pigmented, very comfortable to wear with a creamy finish and last really well. The staying power of the High Voltage lipsticks isn’t quite as good as their Matte lipstick formula, but good nonetheless. After a few hours of wear, a cup of coffee and some food, I only had some minimal fading near the corners and center of my lips.

100 Days of Makeup Challenge – Week 1

I recently decided that I’m going to do a 100 Days of Makeup Challenge after seeing people on Instagram and around the web doing different makeup challenges. I’m not following any guidelines or rules, I’m just making myself do makeup every day for 100 consecutive days all while trying to learn as much as possible in that time.

I really want to push myself to improve and this seemed like a great and fun way to do so! I was only wearing makeup 4-5 days a week before this challenge and that left for 2-3 days a week where I’m not practicing and not learning anything! Of course, I don’t always feel like doing a full face every day but even when I don’t do a full face, I still plan on doing some sort of cool eye or lip look so I can get that sweet, sweet practice in! 😉

I know it’s early in the challenge but I already feel like it’s helping me a lot! Not long ago, I really struggled with cut crease looks. I would draw the line and then wipe it off and redraw it three more times before I would get it right and it usually got pretty frustrating. Lately I’ve done a couple of cut crease looks for the challenge and it’s already became pretty easy for me! No wiping off, just a little careful planning after realizing where I was messing up previously and ta-da! Cut crease.

Day 1

Okay,  so I counted my Sugarpill Tutorial for Day 1.

Day 2

For this eye look I used the Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter stack for my eyeshadow, added Lit Cosmetics Glitter in Mexican Lucky to my inner corner and added some little dots to the outer portion of my eyes using various eyeliners. My lip combo here is MAC Stone lipliner + NYX Matte Lipstick in Butter with a dab of MAC’s Myth lipstick in the center.

You can see the dots a little better here!
