Red Lipstick Swatches & Comparison

Like many others, I’m a sucker for red lips and can find an excuse to wear red lipstick for nearly any occasion. Shades of red can vary greatly though so I decided to swatch my whole collection of reds and compile them into this post for easy comparison.

NYX Butter Lipstick in Mary Janes

Mary Janes reads as a very true red to me. It glides on smoothly, is creamy & comfortable to wear and has some pretty good staying power. It also leaves behind a serious stain. I have a more in depth review of Mary Janes here.

NYX Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick

Indie Flick is probably the most orange shade in the bunch. I feel like it looks very orange by comparison to many of the other shades in this post but I also think it reads clearly as a red in real life. Comfortable to wear and has good staying power. To hear more about the formula, check out this review!

Maya Mia Palette Review & Swatches

Maya Mia Palette

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette ($29) was created in collaboration with makeup artist and Instagram beauty guru @maya_mia_y. The palette features 10 gorgeous eyeshadow shades, a double ended eyeshadow brush and five step-by-step look cards to inspire you & help guide you along the way.

Packaging: Cute design. Feels sturdy and doesn’t bend under reasonable pressure. Comes with a mirror & double ended brush. Holds shut via magnets. 10/10

Longevity: Quite good! I didn’t notice much fading throughout the day. 9/10

Application: The majority of the shades were super easy to apply but a couple were less opaque than I had hoped and a bit difficult to build up. 8/10

Texture: Very good! Most shades were buttery and easy to blend. Very little to no fallout. 9/10

Maya Mia Palette

Nude – a soft peachy nude satin. It’s not very detectable on fair skin but works well as an all over base color or an under-brow highlight.

Deep Brown – very dark brown matte. Almost black but noticeably warmer. Well pigmented.

Sienna – deep reddish-brown matte. Gorgeous color in general but I especially love the way this shade makes blue eyes pop.

Warm Taupe – medium taupe matte. Extremely versatile shade that I can see myself using very often. Makes a great transition shade.

Vanilla – creamy shimmer. This shade is definitely a shimmer but not one of those over the top shimmers that suddenly transforms your eye look into a glitter bomb. Great for highlighting & as well as natural looks.

Aqua – aqua shimmer. This shade is at its full potential when used over a white eyeshadow base, such as NYX White Eyeshadow Base. When not used over a white base, it looks remarkably wearable without being super bold.

Fresh Peach – peachy orange shimmer. Again, this shade will look much more vibrant over a white base. I was hoping for a very obvious peach color on my lid but this applied a bit on the sheerer side. With that being said, I think it will make a beautiful transition color.

Glisten – rose gold metallic. Very pigmented, very beautiful.

Caramel – warm orangish brown. I’m a sucker for warm browns and this is no exception. Beautiful shade that can be used in a huge variety of looks.

Gold Bar – yellow gold shimmer. This shadow ended up being more on the yellow side of gold than what I had expected but still a lovely color.

BH Cosmetics Glamorous Blush Palette Review

BH Cosmetics Glamorous Blush Palette

Packaging: Love that I can have 10 blushes encased in a sleek and convenient plastic palette. I have had no problems whatsoever with the packaging of this product but it’s worth noting the plastic on the top of the palette does bend with pressure.9/10

Longevity: Most of these blushes are well pigmented and still very noticeable all throughout the day but a couple of them seem to fade a little quicker. 8/10

Application: Some of these apply like a dream & are smooth and easily blendable while others sometimes require a little more effort to blend them in. 7/10

Texture: Again, some are smooth and buttery while others are slightly more chalky. 7/10

BH Cosmetics Glamorous Blush Palette

The BH Cosmetics Glamorous Blush Palette comes with 10 shades ranging from neutrals, to soft pinks to darker berry shades and contains shades with both matte and shimmer finishes. The usual price for this palette is $16.95 but it seems as if BH Cosmetics is nearly always having a sale so you’re often able to find this palette for a lower price. At the time of writing this, the Glamorous Blush Palette is being sold for only $7.95 which, in my opinion, is a total steal!

Lorac PRO Palette 2 Tutorial

Lorac PRO Palette 2 Tutorial

Hey guys! So I was watching this video by the ever lovely Samantha Ravndahl and was inspired to create a tutorial for a similar look using only eyeshadows from the Lorac PRO Palette 2.

If you’d like to read more about the Lorac PRO Palette 2, check out my swatches and review!

Start by priming your eyes. I’m using Lorac’s Behind The Scenes primer that came with the palette. The first shadow we’ll be using is Nectar (matte peach) and I’m using a large blending brush to apply that in and above my crease but not quite to the brow bone.

Next take Silver (metallic silver) and pat it on starting with the center of your lid and moving outwards in both directions while still leaving the inner most and outer most corners of your lid blank. Patting this color on instead of swiping it on will help reduce fall out and make the silver more concentrated.

Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel Review

Packaging: The Inglot Gel Eyeliner comes in a clear plastic tub with a black lid. The clear container makes it easy to see what color your product is. Nothing too special here but it does what it needs to do. 7/10

Longevity: Impressive! This waterproof eyeliner lasts and lasts, even in my waterline which I was starting to believe was impossible. 10/10

Application: Very smooth. The product seems thinner than other gel eyeliners and is a pleasure to apply. It does not skip or drag. 10/10

Texture: Very soft, smooth and easy to work with. 9/10

The Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel comes in a plastic container with a black screw-on lid. The product weight is about 5 grams and costs $12. For reference, MAC’s Fluidline will run you $16 for about 3 grams and Maybelline’s Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner is approximately $9 for 3 grams. When you take into account the amount of product you’re receiving, I think it’s a pretty great value.

Natural Eyeshadow Tutorial

I had a few requests for a tutorial for the eyeshadow I was wearing in my NYX Matte Lipsticks post and I’ve finally gotten around to doing it! This natural eyeshadow tutorial is pretty simple and quick and looks fabulous and appropriate for nearly any occasion.

For this look, I’ll be using shades from both my Lorac Pro Palette and Lorac Pro Palette 2. If you don’t have these palettes, don’t worry! I’ll also be describing the shades so you can try to match this look with your own products.

From the original Lorac Pro Palette, I’ll be using Cream (pale matte beige), Sable (medium-dark warm matte brown) & Taupe (medium warm matte brown). From the Lorac Pro Palette 2, I’ll be using Beige (light shimmery beige) & Nectar (matte peach).

In this photo I’m also wearing NYX Matte Lipstick in Nude, MAC Fluidline eyeliner, Make Up For Ever’s HD Foundation in 120 & Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Dark Brown.

Portland Black Lipstick Company Review

Portland Black Lipstick Company is a cosmetic company whose tagline reads “All-natural makeup for that un-natural look.” They’re best known for their assortment of funky & unusual lipstick shades so naturally I had to order a couple of samples and check them out.

Their website is a little wonky at times and not exactly clear cut. It almost seems incomplete in areas and some sections of the site haven’t been updated in months or even years. The part of the website that bugs me the most is that there are no swatches! I mean, there are a few random pictures of employees wearing a couple random of shades in questionable lighting but that’s about it. There are no swatches of any kind for each individual product and I find that incredibly odd. Surely for an indie cosmetic company swatches would be incredibly beneficial to potential customers but no one at Portland Black seems to have bothered even though it’s a pretty simple thing. Anyway, if you can get past the wonkiness that is their website, they do have some really interesting and fun shades of lipstick.

Packaging: I ordered sample sizes which is basically a sliced off piece of lipstick placed into a small baggy. It’s not exactly the best way to apply lipstick but that’s to be expected with samples. However, the full sized lipsticks come in a lip balm style tube, just like Chapstick or something. It would be difficult to apply highly pigmented or unusual shades of lipstick straight out of this tube with the product being flat (AKA not slanted like normal lipstick) so be prepared to carry around a lip brush if you want your lipstick to look neat and crisp. 5/10

Longevity: Wore pretty well for several hours without eating but did feather a little. The feathering wasn’t very severe though.7/10

Application: The Chapstickesque tubes aren’t going to do you any favors when it comes to application but it applied pretty easily with a brush. 7/10

Texture: Quite opaque, well pigmented, smooth and not excessively drying. 8/10
